College Connect pairs high school students with college/recent graduate mentors to aid with the application process. They are there to guide you through the process and provide feedback on whatever you do, but they are not there to do your application for you. You have the best chance of being admitted when you are being true to yourself. Our mentors are there to simply help you with anything you are confused about and provide feedback on your work.
To give our students the optimal personalized experience, we pair members based on college(s) of choice, intended major(s), and desired extracurriculars. For a mentor to be paired with a specific student, they must have been accepted to the student's school of choice, must be in the same intended major, and will most likely participate in similar extracurriculars.
College Connect helps with admissions to any post-secondary institution, including, but not limited to, trade schools, community colleges, state universities, and private institutions. In order for a mentor to be matched with a student, they must have been accepted to the student's college of interest. For example, if a student's main target school was Carnegie-Mellon University, their mentor would have had to go through the application process for Carnegie-Mellon and have been accepted. This way, we can ensure that students get feedback of the highest quality and relevance.
In keeping with our dedication to providing relevant information to students, mentors will also be in the same (or similar, in certain circumstances) major as the student. This way, mentors can advise students about how to shape their admission to fit the specific field they want to go into. By being in the same major, applications can become more specialized towards the specific field, and discussion between student and mentor can be incited.
We also strive for our mentors and students to have the same extracurricular interests, though this may not always be possible given the wide variety of extracurriculars. However, we do our best to match students with mentors who share similar interests and experiences. This allows students to receive even more specialized advice with their application.
While we strive to hit all these targets during the matching process, we also recognize that it may not always be possible, especially with less popular colleges, majors, or extracurriculars. In these cases, our first priority is to match students and mentors based on their post-secondary institution, then their major, then extracurriculars. In cases where this isn't possible, we will look for the closest match and match students based on that.
